Donald Trump, Who’s About to Turn 80, Breaks Bill Clinton’s 25+ Year Old Record During Intense ‘State of the Union’ Speech

Donald Trump, President of the United States, delivered a blistering State of the Union address (SOTU), breaking the record for the longest speech in modern U.S. history. The address ran for about 1 hour and 48 minutes, surpassing Bill Clinton’s 2000 SOTU, which lasted roughly 1 hour and 28 minutes.

This achievement gains significance considering the president before him, Joe Biden, was criticized by a section of the American population over his perceived lack of clarity and energy in public appearances.

Trump’s speeches, by comparison, remains relatively clear—although their content has often remained controversial. Notably, Clinton was 53 years old when he delivered his longest State of the Union address in Washington. Meanwhile, Trump, who is about to turn 80 this year, has broken Clinton’s 25-year-old record. So, without further ado, let’s discuss the salient points he made during his speech.

Donald Trump touts America’s Progress on the Economy and Immigration Control

During the address, Trump stated that he had “inherited a nation in crisis” and turned it into one where “the economy is roaring, our enemies are scared, our military and police are stacked, and America is respected again—perhaps like never before.”

The Biden administration and its allies in Congress gave us the worst inflation in the history of our country. But in 12 months, my administration has driven core inflation down to the lowest level in more than five years—and in the last three months of 2025, it was down to 1.7%,” the president added.

Trump further stated that his administration has clamped down on illegal immigration and significantly reduced the cross-border drug trade in the process. “In the past nine months, zero illegal aliens have been admitted to the United States… The flow of deadly fentanyl across our border is down by a record 56%,” he said.

He also claimed that murder rates were at an all-time low, “the lowest number in over 125 years.”

Speaking on tariffs, part of his long-standing “America First” economic strategy, Trump said these fiscal measures would eventually replace the “modern-day system of income tax” and help lift the great financial burden off the people that he loved.

Hailing the period under his administration as the “golden age of America,” he said the country was bigger, better, richer, and stronger than ever before.

Today, our border is secure, our spirit is restored, inflation is plummeting, incomes are rising fast, the economy is roaring, our enemies are scared, our military and police are stacked, and America is respected again—perhaps like never before,” he further stated.

Trump also claimed credit for ending tensions between India and Pakistan, stating there would have been a “nuclear war” between the two nations if not for his intervention. “35 million people, said the Prime Minister of Pakistan, would have died if it were not for my involvement,” Trump noted in his speech.

The State of the Union address marks a year under Trump’s administration, and so far, his protectionist economic policies and strict immigration stance have divided opinion among Americans. It remains to be seen how history will judge his presidency.
