On the recent broadcast of “60 Minutes,” Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, reiterated the need to establish strict regulations on AI usage. Meanwhile, the AI company has been in much trouble with securing their AI technology, the most recent being Chinese hackers using Anthropic’s AI bots to spy on tech companies, financial organizations and government agencies.
Dario Amodei was vocal about the necessity to maintain transparency and make sure that AI is not misused to harm people’s livelihood. However, in the latest episode of “60 Minutes,” the Anthropic CEO did affirm that there is a high possibility of AI threatening those who hold white collar jobs, stating that AI could replace them with its automated skills and vast access to information on the web.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei cautions about AI taking over white collar jobs
In the November 17th edition of 60 Minutes, Dario Amodei began with the statement that AI could become smarter than “most or all humans, in most or all ways.” Emphasizing on his concerns of the unknown, Amodei shared his apprehension regarding losing control of AI models, the inability to predict such events with precision, the economic impacts of AI, and the misuse of models. Simultaneously, the chief executive did mention that these issues must be addressed as soon as it is found, while accepting the margin of error at hand.
Speaking of the impact of AI on economies, host Anderson Cooper asked Dario Amodei about his recent claim that “AI could wipe out half of all entry-level white collar jobs and spike unemployment to 10%-20% in the next 1 to 5 years.”
To this, Amodei agreed and went on to explain that the tasks of consultants, lawyers and financial professionals at the entry-level could be done by AI models as they “are already quite good at (them) and without intervention.” This also applies to most of the white collar service industry.
Amodei’s main concern pertaining to the aggravated pace of AI development is that “it’ll be broad and it’ll be faster than what we’ve seen with previous technology.” With this, he also adds the importance of being aware of the possible threats AI could pose to the livelihood fo people.

How is Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei planning to counter the AI challenge?
The statement pertaining to unemployment that Cooper asked Amodei during the interview was quoted from a past interview of the Anthropic CEO. During a CNN interview on May 29 this year, Amodei stated this prediction and expressed the urgency to address this issue at the earliest.

Many have been considering the question of unemployment due to AI as an inevitability, but Amodei looks at it differently. To him, the loss of jobs due to AI advancement is one of the many possible events that could occur in the immediate future.
The Anthropic CEO believes there can be ways to delay the growth of AI. Describing the development of AI as an experiment, Amodei shared Anthropic’s endeavor to set up “bumpers” or “guardrails” for it. In the “60 Minutes” episode, Amodei was accompanied by his sister and President of Anthropic, Daniela Amodei.
She said that this measure would be crucial to create opportunities to adapt and address the issues at the earliest. Hoping to champion the use of AI as a tool to supplement human ingenuity and creativity, Dario Amodei believes that the more autonomy AI gains, the more riskier the experiment becomes.
