A clip from a video interview of Elon Musk has been making the rounds on social media lately. In it, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO speaks about his housing choices. He shared that he chooses not to buy big mansions and use them as vacation homes for himself and his family. Instead, he has a “medium sized house” and a “tiny” accommodation.
Since November 2021, Elon Musk has often been labeled the richest man in the world. This has often invited appreciation and controversies pertaining to his executive decisions, leadership, technical innovations, and business acquisitions. Nevertheless, Musk’s lifestyle choice in terms of the kind of housing he prefers to have personally has been received with warmth and wit on social media.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims he has a “tiny house”
On November 14, the Tesla CEO appeared on the Ron Baron’s Baron Capital Conference. A clip from the interview, uploaded by X user @cb_doge, has gone viral on social media. In it, Elon Musk talked about his housing choices. He said that he does not own any vacation homes, instead, he owns a “medium sized house” in Austin, Texas.
Musk then added that he has a “tiny house” in Starbase, which he had bought for $50,000. He goes on to state that he has welcomed people to this property, which has left them flabbergasted. He said, “Friends of mine have come to visit my house and they thought I was kidding, I’m like no, it’s real.“
ELON MUSK: "I don't actually own any vacation homes, and I just own sort of one medium sized house in Austin and a tiny house at Starbase.

Actually people like friends of mine have come to visit my house and they thought I was kidding, I'm like no, it's real. 😂" pic.twitter.com/zypAG3wWrl
Interestingly, this is not the first time Musk has spoken about his Starbase house. In a 2021 X post, Musk had written that the “tiny house” in Starbase is his “primary home“. In the same post, he also mentions that he rents the property from SpaceX. The latter half of the post includes details of his former Bay Area house. The Tesla CEO sold it later in 2021 for $32 million.
My primary home is literally a ~$50k house in Boca Chica / Starbase that I rent from SpaceX. It’s kinda awesome though.

Only house I own is the events house in the Bay Area. If I sold it, the house would see less use, unless bought by a big family, which might happen some day.

Elon rocking the tiny house vibes, while folks be thinking he’s got palaces like Tony Stark. Dude proves you can run billion-dollar rocket science from a pad that’s smaller than your TV room. Who knew living small could flex that big? Sometimes it’s not about the space; it’s the…
